Guide
- book for prisoners
This
"guide" intends to help the prisoners understand the laws that rule
the penitentiary regime in Italy. Generally these arguments are almost always
presented in a very technical way, with a form of language more appropriate to
attorneys than to persons with a normal level of instruction.
The
objective of this guide is to make everybody understand the information, and
explain with simple words the rights and duties of the prisoners. It also
suggests the best ways of behaving in the different situations that prisoners
can find from the moment they enter the institute to the moment they are free.
The
guide is available in seven languages: Italian, Albanian, Arab, English,
Serbo-Croatian, Spanish and French.
|
The
handbook’s first chapter only concerns this "route",
which begins by the search, the withdrawal of personal belongings, the
matriculation. Right from this very moment it is necessary to know the
formalities in order to communicate with the outside, for instance informing
the relatives, appointing an attorney, or getting in touch with one’s own
consular authority, as far as foreigners are concerned. We give suggestions and practical indications in
order to defend one’s own health, and also being able to manage in the
best way regarding agents and "socio - sanitarian" structures.
|
With
the second chapter we pass onto explanations of the laws regulating
the trial, the short proceeding, the appeals and in final the admission to
the penitentiary benefits and the other alternative measures concerning the
detention.
|
The
third chapter deals with the possibility for foreigners of a renewal
of the permit of residence (for those who had it when arrested), rules
regulating extradition and expulsion.
|
The
fourth and last chapter considers the economical results of the
conviction: fines, law expenses, compensation for damages to the plaintiff.
